My Neighbor Handles Selling Scrap Jewelry
My retired neighbor has made a career out of selling scrap jewelry. He has many elderly friends who have jewelry cases full of expensive antiques that are worth a lot of money. He has them figure out what is wearable and if there are pieces that are broken or out of date, he handles all the details of selling scrap jewelry and they pay him a commission of the amount they earned. I think that it is brilliant and since he has a winter and summer home, he is always somewhere warm where he can get around to all his friends houses.
I tried to sell old jewelry on one of those auction sites and did not even get the amount of money out of them that I had originally paid for them. In fact, I think that on one of my old bracelets that I paid over five hundred dollars for, I got a winning bid of seventy five dollars for it. I was glad that I never really wore it, and that the money would come in handy but I was actually our four hundred and twenty five dollars on my deal to sell old jewelry.
I should call up my neighbor and have him give me some pointers on getting the best price. He does not usually deal with really nice pieces, just the scrap jewelry but I bet he knows of places that would pay top dollar for new ones too.
