When we decided to buy the local newspaper to try and keep it afloat, we had no idea what we were getting into. I had never seen so many people that were grateful for helping to keep their jobs though. If we had not purchased it, then it would have closed at the end of the month.

We found some used bladecenter servers in the business that should have been installed probably years ago and used ibm computers that were just sitting in the basement collecting dust. We were happy to find them though, because that was money we could direct into another area of this dinosaur.

We had four reporters who decided to leave with the previous owners and that was okay because I think that we could probably find someone to do their work for half the money, and they would do a better job. I was very sure of that.

After paying to have the used bladecenter installed and the used ibm computers networked throughout the building, we started the task of interviewing for the reporters jobs. We had received fifty resumes in two days after putting the need for reporters out on the web. I could not believe the credentials that some of the applicants had, we were going to find great reporters and keep this paper running without a problem.
